Grand Prix website
Following up on a successful inaugural
USATF Virginia Fall Distance Running Grand Prix
last year USATF Virginia has announced it will offer the Grand Prix again this year. The Grand Prix will include six championship races throughout the state of Virginia and $3500 in prize money for USATF Virginia members.
The grand prix will commence with the
USATF Virginia Cross 5 km Championships
in Newport News this Saturday. The
USATF Virginia Half Marathon Championships
will be held on October 26 in Lexington.
There will be two Grand Prix races in November and two in December. On November 10, the
USATF Virginia 10 km Championships
will be held in Spotsylvania and then the following week the
10 km Trail Championships
will be held in Triangle on November 16. Two weeks later the
USATF Virginia Cross Country Championships
will be held in Mechanicsville on December 1.
The final event in the Grand Prix will be the
8 km Championships
in Williamsburg on December 8 as part of the Christmas Town Dash.
USATF Virginia members will earn grand prix points based on age-grading scoring at each of the six championships. An athlete's three (3) best scores will count towards their year-end grand prix score; with bonus points available for competing in more than three of the championships. Detailed rules for scoring can be found on the USATF Virginia Fall Distance Running Grand Prix
website
.
"We are excited to offer this unique Grand Prix to our members and hope they are able to participate in as many of the events as possible," offered USATF Virginia president Ray Funkhouser. "We are also thankful to the six events that we have partnered with that will be hosting the championships."
