Fall Distance Running Grand Prix Announced
Grand Prix website
USATF Virginia has announced it has created the
USATF Virginia Fall Distance Running Grand Prix
that includes five championship races throughout the state of Virginia and $3500 in prize money for USATF Virginia members.
The grand prix will commence this Saturday (2-Sep) with the USATF Virginia Cross Country Championships in Mechanicsville. In November there will be three championship events on the Grand Prix schedule:
Virginia 10 km Championships (November 4 in Lexington) as part of the Chessie 10K;
Virginia 5 km Championships (November 12 in Falmouth) as part of the FBURG Veteran's 5K;
Virginia 10 km Trail Championships (November 19 in Trianlge) as part of the Run for Wounded.
The final event in the Grand Prix will be the Virginia 8 km Championships in Williamsburg on December 3 as part of the Christmas Town Dash.
USATF Virginia members will earn grand prix points based on age-grading scoring at each of the five championships. An athlete's three (3) best scores will count towards their year-end grand prix score; with bonus points available for competing in more than three of the championships. Detailed rules for scoring can be found on the USATF Virginia Fall Distance Running Grand Prix
website
.
"We are excited to offer this unique Grand Prix to our members and hope they are able to participate in as many of the events as possible," offered USATF Virginia president Ray Funkhouser. "We are also thankful to the five events that we have partnered with that will be hosting the championships."
All of the events in the Grand Prix are sanctioned by USATF and all eligible courses have been certified by USATF.
A 2024 Grand Prix is being worked on that will include championship events throughout the year.
