Sanchious earns two all-American honors at Junior Olympic championships in California
Results
On Sunday (31-Jul) the
2022 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships
concluded in Sacramento, California. The championships were held on the campus of Sacramento State University. USATF Virginia was represented by 16 athletes who competed in 29 individual events and one relay.
4325 athletes competed during the sevens days of competition that began on Monday (25-Jul).
Virginians turned in a total of four (4) all-American performances by way of finishing in the top eight in an event. Each all-American was presented with a championship medal, an all-American patch, and a coveted Junior Olympic all-American hat.
At last year's championships in Florida
Catalina Sanchious
(MVP League) placed seventh in the 100m and 18th in the 200m in the 13-14 division. A year later, and now in the 15-16 division, Sanchious finished second in the 200m and third in the 100m. In the 200m she ran 24.74 (24.64 in the semi-final) as Brooke Jackson of Texas won in 24.64. In the 100m finals her time was 12.22 (12.06 in the semi-final). The race was won by Nita Koom-Dadzie of Texas in 12.00.
Also earning all-American honors were Sanchious'
MVP League teammates
Brooklyn Lyttle
and
Madyson Kannon
. Lyttle finished seventh in the 13-14 girls Triple Jump with a leap of 10.37m (34-0¼). She also placed 12th in the Long Jump, 23rd in the 100m, and 36th in the 200m. Kannon ran 1:03.23 to place eighth in the 17-18 girls 400m Hurdles.
Two athletes placed ninth in their events just missing all-American honors by one place -
George Poulson
(MVP League, 17-18 boys 400m), and
Jordann Germain
(MVP League, 15-16 girls High Jump). The
MVP League
17-18 girls 4x100m team also finished ninth just missing the finals and all-American honors by .06 seconds.

Next year's championships will be held July 23-30 in Eugene, OR.
The
2022 USATF National Cross Country Championships
will be held December 10 in College Station, TX.
