Angell Wins 13th Career USATF title at Masters 12 km Championships in New Jersey

Results
On Sunday (18-SEPT) three (3) athletes from USATF Virginia competed in the
USATF Masters 12 km Championships
in Highlands, N.J. The championship, hosted by the by The Hook or Crook 12K, was the seventh race in the 2022 USATF National Masters Grand Prix. The conditions were hot and humid with temperatures eating into the 80s as the runners were finishing.
A total of 300 athletes from 32 states competed in the championships.
The storyline of the day for the Virginia athletes was the national title won
by
David Angell
, 45, of Blue Ridge, VA. Angell, who competes for the Roanoke Valley Elite, stopped the clock at 41:00; 32 seconds ahead of runner-up Nicholas Thompson of New York. It was his 13th career national title.
"The win was special as I have been battling an achilles injury since late last year and was not able to race in the earlier national events this year," stated Angell.
Angell's performance scored 84.31% on the age-grading tables; which was the 22nd best score of the 205 men that competed. Scores of 80-90% are considered national class performances with scores over 90% being considered world class performances.
In the men's 55-59 division,
Morris Bodrick
, 55, of Dumfries finished 17th running 54:05. And
Raymond Garraud
, 61, of Chesapeake, VA finished 23rd in the 60-64 division running 1:02:58.
