Wilson wins, Nibbelink second at USA U20 Championships in Florida

Over the weekend thirteen (13) members of USATF Virginia competed in the
USA U20 Championships i
n Miramar, Florida.
The top two finishers in each event earned coveted spots on Team USA for next month's Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica. Heading to Costa Rica to represent Team USA will be
Britton Wilson
(Henrico, VA) and
Benjamin Nibbelink
(Leesburg, VA / Virginia Tech).
Wilson came into the competition as the #1 seed and that held to form as she won in a new career best time of 56.36. That time topped her previous best of 56.77 from last week's New Balance Outdoor Championships. The time is the #2 performance all-time by a Virginia high school girl and #7 U.S. all-time. She will matriculate to the University of Tennessee in the fall.
Joining Wilson in Costa Rica will be Virginia Tech freshman Benjamin Nibbelink. Nibbelink who ran his first steeplechase in April a career best time of 9:07.26 to finish second in the 3000m steeplechase. His previous best was 9:13.44. Alex Slenning from Oregon won in 9:04.57.
Picking up bronze medals for their third place finishes were
Chelsea Wallace
(Chesapeake / William & Mary) in the women's Discus and
Carl Omohundro
(Midlothian) in the men's Decathlon. Wallace threw 166-07 to set a career best by 1 foot. She was just 11 inches short of second place and the final qualifying spot for the Pan American team. Omohundro, a recent graduate of St. Christopher's and a future University of Virginia student-athlete, scored 6294 points over the 10-event decathlon competition.
