Powder, Rose, Wilson climb the all-time lists at New Balance Outdoor Nationals

The Virginia athletes had a successful weekend as the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.  Two hundred seventy five (275) athletes from Virginia competed in individual events and 92 relay teams competed.  Athletes competed in the following divisions - championship, emerging elite, freshman, and junior high.
 
Virginia high school records were set by Kurt Powder (110m hurdles, 13.27) and  Michaela Rose (800m, 2:04.38).  Powder and Britton Wilson (400m hurdles, 56.77) ran all-time U.S. top 10  times.
 
The Virginia highlights were:

Kurt Powder (Chesapeake) ran 13.27 to win the 110m Hurdles championship division setting a meet record.  The time is a new Virginia state record and #4 U.S. all-time for a scholastic boy.  The previous state record was 13.37 by Grant Holloway in 2016.
 
Michaela Rose (Suffolk) won the 800m championship running a new Virginia state high school record of 2:04.38.  The previous record was 2:04.94 set in 2005 by Sarah Bowman.  Her time puts her at #29 all-time in the U.S. and is the fifth fastest ever run by a sophomore trailing only Mary Decker, Mary Cain, Laura Roesler and Athing Mu.  She also finished second in the 400m Hurdles running 58.86 and won the emerging elite division 400m in 55.20.
 
Britton Wilson (Henrico) won the 400m Hurdles running 56.77.  The time is #2 Virginia all-time and #7 U.S. all-time.  She missed the Virginia record held by Brandee'Johnson by .61 seconds.

Aaron Shirley (Chesapeake), Powder's teammate Oscar Smith High, won the 400m Hurdles in 51.65.  The time is #6 in Virginia history and the 2019 U.S. #1.

Javonte' Harding (Prince George) finished second in the 100m running 10.39.  The time is the #5 performance by a Virginia prep all-time.
 
Springer TC established a new meet record in the mixed 4x400m relay running 3:27.90.
 
Michail Rose (Suffolk), Michaela's younger brother, ran to a Junior High division meet record in the 110m hurdles as he hit the tape in 15.37 just .01 seconds clear of Morgan Lewis of Tennessee.

Abriel Thrash (Hamilton, Va) set a new meet record in the 800m Freshman division running 2:13.29.
 
Jaden Ferguson (Palmyra, Va) won the Triple Jump (Junior High division) setting a new meet record of 12.70m (41-08).  He also finished third in the Long Jump with a best mark of 6.09m (19-11.75) and 19th in the 100m running 11.89.

Shinobu Hawk (Yorktown) set a new Junior High division meet record in Discus with a throw of 52.93m (173-08).  He also finished second in the Shot Put with a throw of 14.49m (47-06½).
