Deadline: Thursday, June 8 (11:59 am)
Dear Parents and Coaches, We hope this email finds you well. We are reaching out to inform you of an important update regarding the upcoming USATF VA Association Championships. Due to the current circumstances and the impact on air quality caused by the Canadian wildfires, we regret to inform you that the USATF Virginia Association Championships will not be contested. At USATF, the safety of our athletes, coaches, officials, and guests is our top priority. We have been closely monitoring the health issues arising from the wildfires, and based on the advice of the states and cities currently affected, the USATF National Office and Youth Executive Committee have collectively made the decision to cancel the event. In light of this cancellation, all athletes who have registered for the USATF VA Association Championships and paid their entry fees by the 5 pm deadline today will be waived to the Regional Championships. It is crucial that registration and payment are completed by the deadline in order for athletes to be eligible for advancement. We understand that this may come as an inconvenience, but this decision has been made as an emergency measure due to the severity of the air quality issues within your respective Association(s). If your Association Championship will not be affected by the air quality concerns, please proceed as planned. The decision to host the event is at the discretion of the affected Associations. To monitor the air quality in your respective cities, we recommend using the following tool: https://www.airnow.gov/. This resource will help you stay informed about the current air quality conditions. Should you require any further information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist you. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the USATF VA Association Championships. We will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our athletes and will keep you updated on any further developments. Best regards, Maurice Hutton USATF Virginia
