Humphrey Wins Gold, Silver, Bronze at World Masters Championships in Sweden

The 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships concluded on Sunday (25-Aug) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Six (6) USATF Virginia members competed in the championships that began on August 13.

Ronald Humphrey (Chesapeake, VA) competed in six events in the men's 65-69 division; winning four championship medals. He won the world title in the 300m Hurdles  running 45.61, won a silver medal in the Long Jump (5.07m), and rounded out the medal trifecta with two bronze medals (400m, 58.69 and 4x100m relay). He also finished fourth in the 200m running 26.76 and placed fifth in the 100m Hurdles (17.40). In the 200m he just missed the bronze medal by .48 seconds.

Linda Harper (Hopewell) had a busy meet competing in six events in the women's 70-74 division. She finished sixth in the Shot Put (7.55m), seventh in the Throws Pentathlon (2598 pts.), eighth in the Discus Throw (20.04m), 11th in the Discus Throw (19.70m), 13th in the Javelin Throw (15.28m), and 14th in the Weight Throw (7.76m).

Raymond Funkhouser (White Stone) competed in all three of the race walking events. Competing in the men's 70-74 division he finished 10th in the 20 km Race Walk (2:24:49), 12th in the 5000m Race Walk (34:09.03), and 12th in the 10 km Race Walk (1:10:45).

David Hood (Charlottesville) finished 10th in the M55 Decathlon (5687 pts.) and 11th in the Pole Vault (3.20m).

Stanley Peyton (Harrisonburg) finished 15th in the M35 800m (2:00.25), 19th in the 1500m (4:24.60), and 23rd in the 8 km Cross Country event. He also ran a leg on the Team USA's fifth place 4x400m relay. 

Alfredo Rossi (Midlothian) finished 18th in the men's 65-69 Javelin Throw with a throw of 34.14m.
