Pierce selected as Team USA coach for IAAF World Championships in Qatar
HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampton University Director of Track & Field
Maurice Pierce
was named as the Men's Assistant Coach for the sprints and hurdles for Team USATF at the 2019 IAAF World Championships to be held Sept. 27 – Oct. 9 in Doha, Qatar.
This will be his second trip to the world championships after serving as an assistant coach in the 2015 championships in China. This event is the pinnacle of the outdoor track and field season with will have the top athletes from around the globe.
Pierce is considered one of the top hurdles coaches in the world. He has coached six athletes who have competed in the past four Olympics; with two gold medal winners and a silver.
Pierce also served as the assistant hurdles coach for Team USA at the 2011 Pan Am Junior Championships held in Miramar, Fla.
He is a 1996 graduate of Norfolk State University. He was a member of the Spartans track team in 1992-93, and 1995. Pierce is a native of Newport News, Va. and is married to Cantrese Pace-Pierce, a 1998 graduate of Hampton University. They live in Newport News with their two daughters, Alyssa and Aniyah.
