Young 5th At USA 10 Mile Championships

Two USATF Virginia members recently competed in the USA 10 Mile Championships held in Washington D.C.  The championships were hosted by the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run on April 6.

 

Tim Young, 27, of Fredericksburg finished an impressive fifth place crossing the line in 47:45.   Kevin Shirk, 34, of Winchester ran 51:13.  HIs place is unknown as the complete championship results had not been released (as of April 11) by USATF.

 

Young is a 2005 graduate of James Monroe HS in Fredericksburg and a 2009 graduate of James Madison University.  He was the Single A Virginia state champion in the 1600m and runner-up in the 3200m and cross country his senior year.  He is a full time IT networking specialist providing IT support for the Fredericksburg public schools.   "The race went better than I had planned for," stated Young. "I know from previous experience that the course is a fast one and wanted to take advantage of it and the near perfect weather. I was thrilled to run a new PR but to also finish 5th in the championship race was the icing on the cake for me."
