Shoemaker Wins 12 km Championship Again

The USA 12 km Championships were held on Sunday, November 16 in Fairfax, Va. as part of the .US National Championships.  Five (5) athletes from USATF Virginia participated in the championships with one claiming a national title.
Leading the way for the association was Perry Shoemaker, 43, of Vienna who won the 40-44 national title for the second year in a row in a time of 42:53.  Her time scored 90.20% on the age graded tables; anything above 90% is considered a world class performance.  Last year she ran 44:17.  
In the Open women's championship Charlottesville's Rachel Ward placed twelfth in a very strong field.  Ward's time was 40:04.
Finishing 2nd in the women's 65-69 division was Kathleen Doswell (Columbia, Va.) in a time of 1:09:09.
In the men's masters race Carlos Pena (Virginia Beach) placed seventh in the 55-59 division and David LaMay (Leesburg) finished tenth in the 45-49 division.
