Angell wins 5 km title in Syracuse for third national title in 2017

On Sunday (1-Oct) David Angell, 41, of Blue Ridge, Va. ran to his third USATF masters national title in 2017 as he ran to victory in the national 5 km championships in Syracuse, N.Y.
Angell returned to Syracuse having finished third last year in his master debut.  With a year under his belt and the experience of competing in a half dozen championships since then he was able to claim the title this year running 15:37.
“I was happy to win this one since it’s where I started things off on my 40th birthday last year with a 3rd place finish,” offered Angell via email following the race.  “So I was excited to return there and be able to improve my position by a few spots to win the title.”
Angell’s time scored 87.78% on the age grading performance tables.  Scores of over 90% are considered world class while scores over 80% are considered national class.
In March Angell won the 8 km championships in Virginia Beach and then in April he claimed the 10 km title in Massachusetts.
